AOS News & Upcoming Events
Monday, July 26, 2010 at 9:11AM As announced at last week's Social, AOS has many plans for the future! Here's a recap:
Next Social
August 17! Same bat-time, same bat-place. (An Evite will be sent as the date nears.)
LTE/Op-Ed Writing
David Elmore will host a short "How To Write Effective Letters to the Editor/Op-Eds" workshop for members who want to become involved in activism by writing. Details about the workshop will be released soon. One thing we'd like to know is how many people would be interested in such a class (we're trying to figure out where to have the class). Please email me (rationaljenn@gmail.com) as soon as you can if you are interested. And thanks to David, our resident LTE expert (he's been published in the Wall Street Journal, the AJC, and lots of other places) for hosting!
Fall Picnic
We're thinking about having a potluck, family-friendly picnic sometime in September/October at an area park. If you're interested in coordinating this AOS activity, let me know!
Discussion Group
I am working with a volunteer to moderate a discussion/study group. Once we get details worked out we will announce the place and time and topic. If you are interested in moderating, contact me with your ideas. And if you're interested in attending a discussion/study group, let me know that, too (again, so we can gauge interest and crowd-size).
Holiday Party
The plans for the Holiday Party are underway! We don't have a firm date just yet, but it will probably be the first or second weekend of December. We'll need help with this event, too, and you can contact Ansley Cox (ansleycox@gmail.com) if you are interested in helping. One thing I'd LOVE for us to do is come up with a clever Objectivist-related name for the party, and maybe some new lyrics to classic holiday songs. So is this the Holid-A-is-A Party? Is there opportunity in making a song such as "O Little Town of Galt's Gulch?" :o)
MiniCon The Sequel
Yes, this is a waaaaaaaays off. But! MiniCon Two is tentatively planned for Memorial Day Weekend 2011. I've had a couple of volunteers already from people who want to lead classes. (Hooray!)
We have a couple of other social/study/activism ideas, too! I'd love to hear more ideas for what you want for our group.
Webmaster!
We have had so many people volunteer their time and energy for AOS causes! Truly wonderful, thanks! Currently, one of our primary needs is a Webmaster. We really need someone to take our website, make it over, treat it like their personal pet project and make it fantastic! If that person is you--well, you know what to do! :o)
As always, drop me a line at rationaljenn@gmail.com with questions, concerns, and ideas! And don't forget to let me know if you want to take the LTE/Op-Ed workshop!
Best Premises,
~Jenn
